Small-holder farmers

We work with small-holder farmers (particularly women farmers in the eastern region of South Africa) and support them to have control over their agricultural resources (including land, water, seed, infrastructure), and to secure their farmers' rights.

Our work with small-holder farmers includes:

  • training farmers and community facilitators on agroecology practices and GMO awareness;
  • validating traditional agricultural knowledge;
  • promoting household seed banks;
  • farmers' exchanges, seed rituals and seed festivals;
  • supporting farmers to strengthen their agroecological production and market their surplus produce; and
  • facilitating markets for communities' surplus production.

We currently work with small-holder farmer groups and projects in five project sites in KwaZulu-Natal:
