Biowatch's 2016 National Seed Event
21 June 2016 - 23 June 2016, Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal
Biowatch is working with and supporting small-holder farmers in northern KwaZulu-Natal to become more seed, food and nutritionally secure through improved seed and food diversity, and through application of local knowledge systems. By reviving and enhancing traditional agricultural systems, knowledge and practices, farmers are working to ensure they become more seed, food and nutritionally secure and more resilient to climate change.
Our 2016 National Seed Event will bring together farmers, seed custodians, practitioners and other experts to learn and celebrate and organise around local seeds, food and knowledge.
Participants will learn and deliberate on what is happening in South Africa around seed, why seeds need to be protected, and why knowledge on seeds needs to be preserved.
Participants from South Africa and Swaziland will be able to share their experiences and learnings about organising around seed and agricultural activities.
Farmers and participants can exhibit their seed and share their recipes for delicious, nutritious food. Participants will be able to taste local dishes, prepared with locally-grown produce, while learning about the nutritional (and medicinal) values of food grown in harmony with nature.
